I don’t want to brag, but I’m basically a tea party expert. My friends and I have been having DIY themed tea parties for over a decade, and there have been a lot of themes! This one was called different things: Jalloween (Halloween in July) and Summerween being the most popular.

I don’t typically document our tea parties (except on instagram), but I thought this one might give you some ideas on how to throw your own DIY gothic tea party. You can also check out the playlist we listened to during our tea party.

Decorating for a Gothic Tea Party

One of the elements of a tea party is the decor, so I’ll start there. Since the tea party was at Jessica’s house, she was responsible for the decorating.

Fruit-O-Lanterns

Since our goth tea party was in July, there were no pumpkins to be carved. In lieu of gourds, Jessica found some very delicious melons that she carved into jack-o-melons.

Coffin Message Board

Jessica’s sister gifted her this adorable coffin message board right before our tea party. Don’t you love it when you go to a friend’s house and there’s a welcome message?

Halloween Decorations

Any Halloween decorations you might have would be perfect for a goth tea party. Jessica displayed her bird skeleton, ghostie, black roses, and Kuromi stuffy.

Gothic Tea Set

The tea set we used was china that was handed down to Jessica from her grandma. However, if you are thinking of purchasing a goth tea set, here’s a collection of goth tea sets on etsy that might inspire you.

Goth Tea Party Food

You might have guessed from the name of this website that everything at this tea party is vegan, plant-based, and cruelty-free. Fun fact: The first goth I met when I was a teenager was the only other vegetarian I had ever met.

Coffin Cookies

I made these coffin cookies using the recipe for my black cocoa heart cookies. Instead of cutting out hearts, I used this coffin cookie cutter to cut out 22 coffin cookies. Then I cut out bunny shapes from 11 of them using my mini bunny cookie cutter.

I wanted the coffins to look 3-D so it seemed like the dead bunnies were actually inside the coffins instead of resting on top. So, I used the icing to glue the cookie with the cutout shape on top of the complete coffin cookie. Then I drew the bunny skeletons inside the bunny shaped hole using an icing squeeze bottle.

This recipe made 11 coffin cookies.

Mini Ghost Pizzas

Jessica made these mini round pizzas with ghost shaped mozzarella on top. She used the cheese slices from Miyoko’s and carved them freehand (because she was an art major).

Mini Gothic Burgers

I made these naturally-colored mini black burger buns special for this event. I also shared the recipe for the mini burger buns in case you’d like to make them too.

Goth Tea Party Dresses

When choosing what to wear to a gothic tea party, you’re always safe if you just go with black. If you would wear it to a funeral, then it’s probably goth-tea-party appropriate.

However, if you have goth accessories in your arsenal, then by all means, wear them all. I wore a black gothic lolita dress that I had sewn white stitches onto one year, when I was a voodoo doll for Halloween. I added a handmade bat bow and some knife hair clips.

Now, if money wasn’t an issue, my dream gothic tea dress is this bittersweet lolita dress from Angelic Pretty.

Here’s a picture of 3 of us. Sadly, Josipa was the photographer for this one so she’s not in it.
