Vegan Milkshake

I’ve been making this shake recipe for almost 20 years now, and it never fails to be delicious. I legit used to buy organic bananas by the 40-pound box and freeze them just to make these shakes. It’s a super quick and easy recipe that only requires 3 ingredients: the vegan chocolate chips and the nut butter are optional, so you nut-free kittens can omit that. When I was on a raw food diet for a few months, I made this shake almost every night for dessert, but I used my homemade almond milk and raw cacao powder and sweetened it with maple syrup. So, you can customize it easily to your wants and needs.
If healthy shakes aren’t your thing or if you’re a banana hater like Skott, you can check out my mint chocolate shake recipe. You can also pour or spoon the chocolate shake into unicorn popsicle molds for an even cuter summer treat.
This recipe makes 1 large or 2 small vegan chocolate milkshakes (or 5-6 popsicles).
Vegan Chocolate Milkshake Ingredients
- 250 grams frozen bananas (about 2 ½ bananas, peeled, cut into pieces, and frozen)
- 1 ½ tablespoons (10g) cocoa powder
- ¼ cup (25g) vegan chocolate chips (optional)
- 1 tablespoon (15g) nut butter (optional)
- ⅔ - ¾ cup (170ml) plant-based milk
Vegan Chocolate Milkshake Directions
Dollhouse Tip
Peel 3 bananas and break each one into 5 pieces. Store in a freezer bag and freeze for 24 hours before you want to make your shake.
Add the following ingredients to the blender in this order: 2 ½ (250g) frozen bananas (cut into 1-2” pieces, 1 ½ tablespoons (10g) cocoa powder (I use fair-trade), ¼ cup (25g) vegan chocolate chips (I use fair-trade), 1 tablespoon (15g) nut butter, and ⅔ - ¾ cup (170ml) plant-based milk.
Blend the ingredients until smooth, but don’t overblend because you want the shake to be thick. It’s better to add less milk than you think you’ll need than to add too much. Sometimes if I’m making a really thick shake, I might have to stop the blender and take the lid off and stir the ingredients and then reblend.
Pour into 1 large glass or 2 small glasses and serve.
